Death from above: Prince Althran

Vertical envelopment, death from above.

A couple of shots of my finished Prince Althran model riding his gryphon painted in the style of a peregrine falcon.

Done in classic High Elf colours, with the addition of the line green sash that I think I'll use as a spot colour for the rest of my army, which will be mainly a Lothern, Caledor and Saphery force. Hopefully I'll have some Sisters of Averlorn done next.

Love to hear your thoughts.

  1. Lovely! Excellent work on the feathers, they look very realistic. I particularly like the dark topside and light/white underside. The lime green works well as a spot colour and is a good idea to carry through the army. I would have liked to see some highlights on the 'chicken' feet, they are such a powerful part of this model. Nonetheless, great work!

  2. The feathers come up really well in the photos. Glad that you like the two tone effect as well. I'm really happy I was able to execute the Peregrine falcon look. Funnily enough I did highlight the legs with skull white, but I shaded them gryphone sepia after which blended them possibly a bit too much!

  3. Wow... just wow. A very worthy paint job for one of my favorite high elf models. The griffon is fantastic (love the eyes and feathers) and I really really like the elegant simplicity of the blue you are using for your high elves - I really don't even have any minor constructive criticisms (Gaz - on this one I disagree w/ you about the chicken feet - I like the toned down look here and there is enough 'light stuff' going on in those white feathers around the feet - like the contrast as is). Great stuff!

  4. Hi Nbomber! Cheers for that. Glad that you like it so much. Agreed on the times down legs too. I think if they were lighter it might detract from the face and feather pattern on the neck.

The blue is really pretty straight forward to achieve and the Enchabted Blue us one of GW's older range paints that definitely holds its own even now.

Next up 10 sisters of Averlorn and some Dark Elf test models including the big boy: Kharibyss! NOM-NOM-NOM!
