A couple of shots of my Dark Elf assassin Eldrich or 'Swiftblade' as he's more often called. The base is still to be covered in snow and small pieces if tundra. And I'm going to do some directional lighting on his potion so that will pop a bit more.
I've decided my Dark Elves are going to be mainly blue/greens with purples and golds as spot colours and you can see this on this test model for the army. Given that Eldrich skulks around in the shadows, his colours are much darker than the rest of the normal troopers will be. I'll post a full painting summary when he's 100% finished.
I love the old school assasin... esp. his shiny bald head and the light on those wicked curved daggers! The base is also working really well... like he is stepping off onto the rocky coasts of Naggaroth or a black ark. Personally I think the base might be fine as is, w/ out the snow/tundra... from the models I have seen using the snow base I feel the snow often ends up distracting from the model itself, and I quite like the bleak, barren rock. Is there a way to do dead seaweed?
ReplyDeleteHow many assassins can you field at once? Are you tempted by the new one?
He's a lovely model to paint. I think you can potentially field lots - they're a hero choice. But I'd say max of 2, maybe more in a 3000 point game. There are quite a few other choices that I would field ahead if them. I've actually reprinted him just slightly and am happier with the current result which includes the directional lighting effect and a runic tattoo on his face and no purple and in place, more greens which works better with the coastal theme.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of seaweed! Great suggestion. I might be able to cut shapes out of alfoil. I'll use the kelp that's attached to the Lothern Sea Guard as an example. I might ask for Gaz and Dave Parker's advice/input on the sculpting side.
The plus side with snow is that it contrasts really well with the black colours in the army. The other side of this too, is that I pictured them sailing through frozen ice floats in winter - it's cold in Naggaroth right?
